Why was Bahamut in Doomgaze’s mouth in Final Fantasy 6? I remember hoping for some lore around that. Oh well.

Who else imagined that the ruined castle in Final Fantasy 6 was Baron Castle from 4? Maybe a few hundred years afterwards? Unless Rosa was really, really freaky. #finalfantasy #finalfantasy6 #finalfantasy4

Final Fantasy 6’s power is making you imagine a world with so may different corners, from a comic strip about an octopus receptionist to an opera-themed pulp love story to a homicidal clown.

One minor oddity in FF6: how did a person like Leo come to believe a person like Gestahl was good? I guess you’d have to attribute charisma to the situation, seeing the side of him that the party saw during the banquet.

I really do like publishing the kind of video game books I grew up reading from Steven Schwartz and Rusel Demaria, it’s great to have achieved that. I’d like to do more, but for that to happen, I’d need a lot more readers. #finalfantasy #nes #nintendo #squaresoft

Sabin was a unique addition to a Final Fantasy game. In some ways, he was a monk, which is hardly new. But his mechanics were straight out of a Street Fighter game, which was crazy popular at the time. I even spent many hours looking for that fabled “Boss Code”.

What was the discarded narrative behind the fake Siegfried in Final Fantasy 6? Was it just an alternative recruitment mechanic for Gogo, or something more?

FF6 was a great Final Fantasy game, but not perfect. I was in the first wave of OG players who wanted more in the WoR. Features like the scenario choice system were also underused. And what was the fake Siegfried’s deal? Still, the most “literary” FF out there!

The real strength of Final Fantasy 5 was not the story, but the system. It improved heavily on 3’s job system and was the first game to let you mix class abilities in a formal sense.

I had an import of Final Fantasy 5 before it was ever released in the states, I used dot matrix printouts of Mark Rosa’s translation, and I felt so cool.

Gilgamesh was probably the deepest villain in Final Fantasy 5. Siegfried’s predecessor! 󠁣󠁡󠁮󠀠󠁡󠁮󠁹󠁯󠁮󠁥󠀠󠁳󠁥󠁥󠀠󠁭󠁥󠀿󠀠󠁈󠁥󠁬󠁬󠁯󠀿

Butz—err, Bartz — wasn’t the complex protagonist that Cecil was. No dark sword influence, no atrocities to make right, just a dude who wanted to travel. The focus is much more on character relationships than the individual characters themselves.

Final Fantasy 5 wasn’t what I’d call the most powerful narrative game in the series (especially compared to 4 and 6), but it had its character moments. Exdeath’s greatest value to me as a villain is in picturing him as The Giving Tree gone awry.

Final Fantasy 4: TAY had a disappointing villain. That maenad character should have been Zemus’s daughter.
December 1, 2025 at 3:10 AM
Kain was also a nuanced character, making you wonder just when and how he fell under Golbez / Zemus’s control. Was it before the beginning, or after Rydia’s earthquake? As tedious as TAY was, his story was one of the redeeming elements. #finalfantasy

Rydia went from an angry orphan to a compassionate woman who saved the life of her mother’s killers — another character path that just blew me away in Final Fantasy IV. #Finalfantasy

Cecil was a villain at the beginning of Final Fantasy 4. He was under the influence of the dark sword, just beginning to grow donkey ears and a tail like Pinocchio on pleasure island. But he got out in time!

“Rarely did a villain with a shattered mind return to the way they were, survive the end of the story, and have to face the consequences” -regarding Golbez
