@ped.ro Do you happen to have any idea what the technology behind the @raycast.com Translate feature is? What API is it using? Google? DeepL? Some kind of LLM?

If you hate seeing anything at all on your #Mac desktop, the following command will hide all desktop items:

defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool false && killall Finder && say icons hidden

And back again:

defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool true && killall Finder
November 27, 2024 at 9:08 AM
This changes everything.
💻 Remember, if you're on a Mac, you can clean up your desktop by having screenshots sent to another folder:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture location whatever-the-pwd-of-folder-is

(then do killall SystemUIServer)

In case you missed it: Bluesky runs on-prem. They migrated off of AWS months back.

So yeah, they DO need to put orders in for servers! (Good luck to the dev team!)

a PSA since a lot of folks have been surprised to learn this: terminal programs often support the mouse! Try:

- opening `htop` and clicking a column header to sort
- opening `nano` (or vim, or micro) and clicking and dragging to select text
- using the scroll wheel in `mc`

it often Just Works

The web needs sustainable funding. If you don’t understand the economics of browsers and what this could mean for the ecosystem go give my latest talk a watch. It’s not just Google/Chrome that will be affected.

So are we all just maintaining accounts on BlueSky, Threads, and Mastodon? Or does it feel like BlueSky is winning out?

Neat! I could update my Blue Sky handle so it’s the same as my domain! That was super simple.
