Ultimately most of the writers of these games don’t really engage meaningfully with politics, culture, and ideology. It’s one reason why Rockstar, Bethesda, and Obsidians best commentary is retrospective, not contemporary, commentary.

I think it’s also an artifact of an age when being a tech-libertine was synonymous with being a liberal or leftist. Similar to how GTAV is an anti-liberal/conservative game, when in 2013 (and hell today) no serious person would have written about it as such because of surface level progressivism.
