The main rule of excavation is, however big the area of investigation, there's always an interesting archaeological feature disappearing under the edge of the trench

A few #Mesopotamian - #Iranian favourites from the Brussels Art & History museum. The choir of figurines is definitely the pick of the bunch!

Looking forward to reading this one!
Our new paper in Current Anthropology summarises a joyfully collaborative project to protect cultural heritage in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq by engaging a wider public and making archaeology as a form of cultural heritage more accessible and enjoyable.

Israel has obliterated the mausoleum of Simon Peter, the Apostle of Christ, in Shama, southern Lebanon.

A sacred site that has stood for over 2,000 years, now lies in ruins.

This is not “self-defense”.

This is a war crime and a crime against history.

A really exciting site, and pleasure to be part of such a wonderful team!
Our paper on Late Chalcolithic Shakhi Kora was just published. A rather amazing site with an intriguing occupation history that suggests the development of local institutional households, an Uruk one, and then the rejection of this type of centralised organisation/power.

Since I missed #NationalIllustrationDay2024 , here is my contribution - a selection of unpainted late 4th millennium Uruk sherds from Kani Shaie, #Kurdistan and some beautiful painted cups from the early 3rd millennium there. A lot changed in only 300 years! #archaeology
