For the latest @onthemedia.bsky.social I spoke with @josephcox.bsky.social about the administration’s new-found love of content moderation as the DOJ has been pressuring Apple, Google, and Meta to remove apps and groups decided to helping people document ICE activity:

On @onthemedia.bsky.social I spoke with @joshuakeating.bsky.social about the US bombing boats in the Caribbean and why combining the war on drugs with the war on terror is a very bad development: www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/otm...

I feel strongly that media should not call this a "crackdown" on free speech. That word implies something illegal is being righteously targeted and rooted out. It's the same framing that has obfuscated the admin's "crime" and immigration policies. Just call it censorship.

Right-wing media figures speaking out against AG Pam Bondi's threat to criminalize "hate speech" is significant imo and might slow the roll on some aspects of the admin's crackdown.

Just watched Grave of the Fireflies for the first time. Oh my god. A beautifully crafted, absolutely gutting film about Japanese children who are orphaned and starved following an American bombing campaign during the Pacific War. I couldn't stop thinking about Gaza. Highly recommend.

As we watch the public radio ecosystem start to crater, I’ve been thinking about Eric Klinenberg’s prescient 2002 book Fighting For Air, a warning of what’s to come…

From the Free Press article about billionaires dreading a potential Mamdani mayorship: “…targeting the very class that powers the city’s economy”… What about the classes of people who most of the working in city?
