Top-tier, elite, unsung hero of postpartum mom care:

The “new mom drop-off”

Make a meal, leave it on her door step, don’t ask to see the baby. Don’t make her feel obligated to entertain. 🏆

just stumbled on a real jaw-dropper of a line in an essay -- “The corollary of being interested in a great range of things is to have sympathy with a great range of outlooks” -- and that, my friends, is why reading is so important.

One of the biggest takeaways from my interview with a postpartum doula:

✅ Make a “no” list during pregnancy to eliminate unnecessary stressors and set boundaries / limits.

Maternal mental health

— Some research suggests 80 to 90% of new mothers feel lonely.

— One study found that 43% of mothers under the age of 30 in the UK felt lonely all the time.

This isn’t just sad or surprising to me but CONCERNING, because loneliness can contribute to postpartum depression.

Two truths:

1️⃣ The “cult” of good motherhood puts HUGE pressure on moms to *do it all*

2️⃣ Our society does not support postpartum moms

maybe that’s why so many new moms suffer from perinatal mood disorders like #postpartum depression and anxiety 🧐

Never once have I seen a dad in an airport traveling alone with a baby or toddler.

2 yrs ago I asked my husband not to touch me (without asking) for 3 months.

I realized I had literally 👏 never 👏 had bodily autonomy. Not even in my own home.

An entire new part of me relaxed when I realized I didnt have to brace myself (or accept) unwanted (and loving) touch from anyone.
