Floods are common across cultures. Welsh mythology features several flood stories, most notably the legend of the monster Afanc which caused a great deluge, and the tale of the sunken kingdom of Cantre'r Gwaelod, lost due to a gatekeeper's negligence. It's not an area I've looked into much.
