That can make tracking information in multiple dimensions difficult and once you throw in say an ods style freeze for the data or you are comparing that vs another series of sheets.

If I want to process some items as events, I really do like having a multidimensional object like xml or json.

If what you are representing is two dimensions, I agree but I think we have some better data formats today for more complex data.
