UK needs to have a new Parliamentary Standards Act.
1. No MP should have a second job.
2. Only exception should be where required to have continuing work experience to return to a previous job.
3. MP's should not accept gifts worth more than nominal value (£15).
4. They should attend Parliament.

I have said this elsewhere before. Elected politicians should be subject to same rules on accepting gifts as local authority employees. Effectively, this means that they should not be accepting anything that is worth having.

Authoritarian states always start by targeting journalists, judges and lawyers. I congratulate the Faculty of Advocates for being one of the signatories to this public statement deploring US Government attacks on lawyers doing their job www.advocates.org.uk/news-and-res...

Is Trump the new Neville Chamberlain? He does not seem to have the foresight or the wherewithal to be a new Winston Churchill. His account of his telephone call with Putin suggests that Putin has the measure of home and can play him like a fiddle.

If one of Donald Trump's critics that he has threatened to throw in jail after he became President is actually prosecuted, would the UK grant asylum to that person or other Trump critics if they ask for it?

Essay questions. Inmates of an asylum vote for one of them to run the asylum. That person replaces staff at the asylum with other inmates who are his friends. What do you think will happen to remaining inmates in the asylum? What are the consequences for the asylum as an institution? Does it matter?

I closed my Twitter account very shortly after it was bought by Elon Musk. It became obvious to me that Twitter was no longer a respecter of free speech or a safe place. It has taken a long time for me to find a suitable replacement. I do hope that BlueSky is truly that replacement.
A tale of two platforms:

BlueSky user numbers have hit a new record high in recent days, while the number of people deleting their accounts on X/Twitter has rocketed 🚀

One of the fun things about deciding that something you castigated a political opponent for (double-jobbing as an MP and MSP) is, on reflection, absolutely fine when *you* want to do it is that you force your colleagues to give daft answers like this in interviews. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
