The evening sun at my local park was just above the mountain on the other side of the lake. It backlit the trees in front of me, giving them a halo of green on their outer edges. The lake glitters, a bicycle is parked off to the left, and a couple is walking along the pathway. The grass is illuminated by the late afternoon sun, giving stark contrast to the tree's shadow playing out over it.

I took this pic at my local Safeway. Guess which onions are the US ones
Two bins of onions, one of red and one of yellow. The red onions bin is almost empty and is advertised as Canadian grown. The yellow onions bin is full and advertised as US grown. This is at a small town Safeway in British Columbia.

The other night I made a jambalaya from a recipe book I picked up a while ago. The book is called Jubilee: Recipes from Two Centuries of African American Cooking. The jambalaya is the best I've had. And there are so many more great recipes in that book. Get it and enjoy. Make great food.

The final stages of a jambalaya with shrimp and mushroom being mixed into the pot prior to it going into the oven. A note saying: Quite aside from the damage to goodwill, which is already incalculable, the US is no longer a safe supplier of unprocessed food, because it's no longer tracking outbreaks of infections. No sane purchaser will buy produce that might contain E. coli, dairy that might contain listeria, meat that might contain salmonella, and the US is keeping it secret. Boycotting American produce, meat and dairy isn't just a matter of Canadian patriotism, it's also a matter of public health.

That is a great looking ride! How do you like the big Tenere? I found it to be a bit more than I wanted weight wise and ended up with the 2017 Africa Twin which I absolutely love!

It's still Burger Month in Nelson. This is the offering from Torchlight... Description in the alt text!
Torchlight Brewing's Burger Month offering is a jerk burger with house-aged thyme bacon, locally sourced jerk sauce from a great sauce maker originally from Jamaica, smoked cream cheese, a fresh burger patty, plantain chips, lettuce, pickled pineapple chunks, garlic aioli, all on a brioche bun. This is probably the best burger I've ever had. The flavours just combine so well, complimenting each other with every bite. The jerk sauce is a slow build to a crescendo by the end of the burger experience. Truly mouthwatering. And it pairs well with the On Tour Lager! Burger month is almost done. I am so glad I had this one.

Ok, so I went a bit sideways on this. I had leftover buttermilk so, of course, biscuits. Instead I made buttermilk banana bread because I also had leftover bananas.

And then I went a bit nuts for dinner. Description in the alt text.
Seared beef medallions with Bordeaux pan sauce, roasted veg, and fondant potatoes. The beef is topped with a bit of local blue cheese. The beef and the potato are on opposite sides of the plate with the roasted carrots, broccoli, and parsnip in between. The veg is covered with the pan sauce which is made from fond, shallots, shitaki mushrooms, thyme sprigs, Bordeaux, and butter with just a bit of salt and pepper. My wife was happy.

There's fresh snow on the mountain this morning and we're sitting at 2C in town. It's almost here.
Snow on Elephant Mountain across Kootenay Lake from the City of Nelson. The snow is almost halfway down the mountain and below the snowline the signs of autumn are visible. Poplar and larch trees run in veins of bright yellow as they follow the creek beds down the mountain to the lake. In the immediate foreground is an older building done in a Tudor style with a nondescript Salvation Army office in the building to the right.
