I was watching PBS news briefly yesterday, and it was so refreshing to hear actual reporting without the softening.

I always read this & Bud, Not Buddy to my 5/6th-grade students. Since social studies is being constantly reduced, educators/parents need to use lots of historical fiction (during literacy time & at home) to keep kids informed.

I used to live in New Mexico and do the same. I’m equally mortified and unable to stop.
