Friday 21st: My final #ShoutOutForGerman goes to @warwick-smlc.bsky.social especially the German section, who have supported me from UG-PhD. Without the expertise, community & encouragement I found at Warwick, I would never have developed such a passion for German language & culture!

Tuesday 18th: Today I reminisce about my wonderful Auslandsjahr in Munich, where I worked as a @britishcouncil.bsky.social language assistant, travelled all over Bavaria, met some amazing friends who I’m still in touch with, and improved my German all at the same time! #ShoutOutForGerman

Monday 17th: Today I celebrate German film, in particular Goodbye Lenin! (2003) which I studied at A Level. This film triggered my interest in German culture, and I am grateful to my teachers for sparking this passion that has now led me down the PhD in German Studies path! #ShoutOutForGerman 🇩🇪🎬

A busy week next week! First I’ll be delivering a session on Das Leben der Anderen for school students and then I’ll be hopping over to Utrecht for the Provincializing Weimar Culture conference to speak about colonial fantasies in Fritz Lang’s Harakiri!
April 18, 2024 at 10:20 AM
I wonder how Fritz Lang feels about his poster for Metropolis being in a micropub’s toilet cubicle! Between the head and the hands must be loo roll??!!

An important thing I’ve learned whilst doing my PhD is that it is absolutely ok to take a break! So tonight I’m off to see one of my favourite bands (McFly) with one of my favourite people (and one of my oldest friends!) 🤘🏻

Last night Warwick students were treated to a screening of Anders als die Andern, introduced by the inimitable Ervin Malakaj! A delight as always and the students learned so much from a wonderful colleague!
