Just wondering how we got here, big fan of reality and the people who live there, so feeling lonelier everyday.
As a Gen X Democrat I can vouch for the sentiment in this video.

This country is 30% left, 30% right. The key is how do you attract the 40% that are not hardcore either way. Some may lean the wrong way but they are getable. Power is defined by attracting more of that 40%, by gaining power the right becomes nothing more than noise.

You seem to be missing the point, people won’t turn Republican but they won’t care about your issue as much as you want them to. This binary thinking is nihilistic. Movements are about coalitions, trying to cow people to your beliefs is what makes you republican.

Ok sure, my difference in strategy about blocking traffic is the defining moment of civil rights. Gotcha, you can fire all your shots at me, someone on your side, but you prove the point that you are more interested in making noise than solving problems.

Yes because vigorously supporting immigrants rights vs mildly supporting is the bright line between fascism. This type of extreme thinking won’t allow for soft converts. Addition is your friend.

If you think activism is about anything other than bringing more people to your side then you have a lot to learn about activism. The collective of the nation whether by political or cultural is the only thing that can make lasting change. It is always math.

Sorry that I understand winning brings the power to make change, being counterproductive to make a point, even a valid point brings you nothing. It will always be about math, what brings you more voters to enact the change you want. You can call that whatever you want.

Blocking the freeway isn’t the best way to bring over voters to our side. In fact I would guess it does the opposite. Every person willing to back our side that gets caught up in this, that was on their way to see a sick friend or relative, or missed their kids event. They are just pissed off.

I wrote about the early 2000’s when the GPS panic occurred. At which time cars didn’t have transmit capabilities, yet cell phones were becoming mainstream that had the ability to track. This isn’t a GPS issue but a connect car issue. Creating panics over irrelevant parts of tech serves no one.

There is a lot to be concerned with with data capture and AI. My point is let’s focus on what really matters and not everything tagged AI. This feature by apple is the least of our worries and meaningless on the question. When irrelevant features are sensationalized it only dumbs down the debate.

I would suggest you get off social media if you are that paranoid. You think your fake profile pic and free email account protects you?! There is no data capture in the image process, it is using image recognition models to tell you what is in your photo. Not capturing your photo.

You seem ok with using the internet to post on social media, even with your “anonymous” account your data is more at risk with this feature than an on device image recognition feature. If you’re serious about data privacy you have bigger concerns to address.
January 5, 2025 at 4:13 PM
I certainly didn’t say that, but you should be concerned with things where your data is actually at risk. Rather than features that carry no data privacy risk just because you don’t understand how they work.

Understanding hurts no one, being told to fear something without the context of its application is other thing.

This reminds me of the GPS car navigation scare of the 2000’s. Everyone freaked out that a GPS receiver only device was tracking them while they happily carried a cell phone with transmit capability, which was actually tracking them. Scaremongering serves no one.
