It was a blast and an honor to teach Entomology for the Dekalb Co. Naturalist program for the third year in a row. The students are always brilliant and we found some great insects and spiders.

Crane flies are notoriously tough to i.d. without dissecting them but I believe this is a female in the genus Tipula.

In Buddhism, one of the things that owe all life around us is Abhayadana or the gift of fearlessness. Fearlessness to protect and care for others and fearlessness to defend our own rights. When I hear the word fearless, Tankman is always my first mental image.

Field Museum, Chicago - a 14th century, Tibetan depiction of Maitreya, the future Buddha who will return when we need it the most. LIKke most depictions of the Buddha, the features are unstuck in gender and race. My money is on Maitreya, the next Buddha, being a brown girl.
