Adoptees speak of being the only people of color in their schools as well as living in households that don’t embrace their culture. This can manifest into feelings of isolation on top of abandonment issues.

You nailed it! Unfortunately, Black mothers have disproportionately have had their children removed. For many reasons, this is traumatic. White families disproportionately become adoptive parents. Therefore children of Black and brown cultures are expected to assimilate into a white society.

It’s a tough one. I think as humans we should have a right to know our genetic history. Many adoptees yearn to understand why their mom gave them up. DNA research companies have been a huge help in the process of locating biological families.

It was surprising to me. I have 2 brothers who were adopted. I only learned after adopting our girls and doing some research.

Yep!High school bands fundraised their hearts out and just got word it’s off. For the record, if my son’s band was invited,I wouldn’t allow it. Plus he’s awesome and said he’d refuse to go.

I will proudly tell my grandkids this household stood up for democracy. We saw the danger and actively fought.
