That may be the case; I don’t wish to pass the buck but it seems like some regimes that start off well end up authoritarian and I believe this is a reaction to US attempts to destabilize or overthrow them. I don’t mean this as an excuse, just a possible explanation.

We characterize any socialist policies in these countries as anti democratic and evil, but the driving force has always been to secure more resources for ourselves at the expense of the poor. My hope is that more people can see through the media’s spin on this.

I’m not sure if this was directed at me or at readers of CNN but in any case I spent a good chunk of my life working in Latin America and for the US’s relations with Latin America have always been dictated by business interests. We’ve tried to overthrow the government in Venezuela multiple times.

Thank you so much! I’ve been considering closing my Instagram account, I don’t like supporting it by posting work there. It feels much less uncomfortable posting work here. Instagram has so many weird issues around throttling visibility and posts.

Anyway it’s nice making your acquaintance, please say hi to your dad for me! 😊

That’s awesome! She passed away in June after struggling two years with Alzheimer’s (she was 98); my husband and I took care of her down here in Palm Desert. I never had her as a teacher but grew up with a lot of English literature so was exposed to a lot of Keats, Woolf, Joyce, and Blake.

Hi by any chance are you Rich Herold’s daughter? If so, my mom taught at the same high school as your dad.
