My notebook was in reasonable shape and he flipped through experiments to find something to comment on. He landed on a failed experiment. A reagent table at the top, a quick early observation and then, scrawled in block capitals across the page, “CRAAAAAAAAP”. (2/3)

True story: I was a grad student in Paul Wender’s lab. He had asked to see everyone’s notebooks and was going through them with each student individually. By the time he got to mine, it had been a long evening already. I sat down in his office, ready to receive his wisdom. (1/2)

The bit that leapt out at me was that finding them required nine jurisdictions and the FBI, and yet these sophisticated criminals’ Achilles heel turned out to be that they seemingly told everyone who would listen that they were robbing famous athletes.

I would also add that I will treat ANY claim that a compound was discovered using AI with extreme scepticism. If someone has solved any part of this problem, it's so valuable that it's worth exaggerating.

If the ultimate goal is a job in Pharma, apply as soon as possible to both. If you don’t get offers you like from industry, take a postdoc offer from someone with a track record of putting people into jobs like you want.
