Game developer, mostly. Started in animation on Reboot and Beast Wars back in 95. TD on Unity's Adam shorts. Cinematics on Gears and Call Of Duty.
We had the same "cigarettes do something" theory at first just because they accidentally make it feel significant when the only 2 people smoking seem to get affected differently than everyone else.

Yep, she DID get hooked in (so they can get her memories and intimate knowledge of Carol for plot reasons) but died of a brain bleed shortly after. On a rewatch you can see they try to make that clear but kinda fail.

But yeah Helen's brain bleed wasn't well told, you have to understand the racoon eyes symptom or have heard a story of someone who was killed just by a fall from standing position.
It was a solve for getting her memories: she had to be merged while unconscious and then die.

They tried to illustrate that everyone who died was driving or fell down the stairs etc when frozen, as shown with the crashed cars and Helen hitting her head and eventually dying of a brain bleed.

Then millions more died in accidents when Carol caused another pause, also with reliable witnesses

It's true, LLMs proved the endless free marketing you get for "we shouldn't be doing this, won't anyone stop us?"

We've gone from the sales pitch needing "disruptive" to "potentially world-destroying and an affront to god"

Can't wait for the wave of "experts" explaining it (like blockchain had) where you can tell they 1. Don't know what they're talking about and 2. Can't think of a single use case that makes a lick of sense

It's kind of incredible how we actually got there. The Kohler employees must be referencing it constantly. Half of them doing Jim looks to camera, the other half exasperated about how that's not how it works and it's not funny

11 years ago Adult Swim did a "Smart Pipe" infomercial predicting this. It starts as social media satire but then addresses the implications of transmitting toilet photos of children across state lines.

We put Busta Rhymes in Def Jam Fight For NY (2004). No Ninja Turtles but you could make him fight other popular characters like Def Jam's co-founder's wife.

Pacific Northwest was happening! Grunge launched. Logging-adjacent was the fashion.

Wait until this guy discovers the groundbreaking technology called "listening to the radio"

Like all GenAI output, it's in the SHAPE of the form it's trained to imitate but lacks any coherent thought.

Perfect ad for the product.

It's a perfect fit for the product: agents that have no idea what they're doing, made by companies that have no idea what their business plan is

It's almost like they have to manipulate the price to keep the mining cost-effective (requiring periodic doubling to combat the halving) to prevent it disappearing completely

Some say he was about to reveal it and shadowy forces couldn't let that happen.

I think simply knowing the secret is what made his head do that

Ah, so it's not just the website that can't cope with touching any of the video UI
November 21, 2025 at 12:11 AM
Actual game developers could benefit from it! Far too often I see someone more junior make a video screen material and pipe the image that's 'on the screen' into the "Base Color" channel as well as Emissive (Partly because Unreal named the "Albedo" channel confusingly)

Finding good deals by searching misspellings that keep listings out of other shoppers' searches?

I just saw IGN posted "Why isn't Pennywise in The Running Man"

Just randomly mixing together Reddit posts about Count Chocula and other posts about counting and lollies, with their custom sauce that makes it reference the lack of samples of that phrase in the dataset but simultaneously assemble authoritative statements out of it

This one makes it obvious how it works, an autocomplete machine guessing the statistically likely next word based on the previous words, over and over.

I worked on the pre-release Knuckles for a bit, and heard a rumour of impending simul-release of Index, Knuckles, and Half-Life 3 to play on them.

At least today they finally announce the ideal hardware for that killer app!
