What she said that I pointed out as racist:
"Blacks & whites shouldn't mix!"
"That's for laundry. Black & white people can love who they love. Love is love.
That's miscegenation. Miscegenation is racism."
That's when she flipped her shit.

I lived w her long enough to know she was one of those "nice" racists, from all her unsolicited microaggressions & direct comments on race.

She was already carried away & not calming down or listening to me when I was trying to redirect focus to what she said than taking the focus off her.

Our last argument, about 2 weeks before she passed.
I pointed out what she said was racist, she took it as a personal attack, "I'm not racist!", "You don't know me!" "You don't know my life!"

I'm doing every night I'm up at night like that. So there's a possibility of having another chance of that.

I regret freaking out.
She requested I repeat myself & I hung up.
I should have taken a breath & calmly repeated myself.
Would have been something to engage that conversation w a council member at 2am.

First time calling my city council members. I call all but the last one. When I get to her. Prompts about don't leave a voicemail, call this other number instead. So I did, and she answered! I quickly said what I had to & hung up. Awkward! 😬

She passed in 2022 at 93.
Despite living through the Civil Rights Movement & other past movements in her lifetime, she didn't seem to learn from it. She had no profound personal wisdom to bestow upon me. Only thing I recall on those topics from her is racism.
