#OTD 18 April 1978 the SFA fined Rangers a paltry £2,000 after their fans invaded the Fir Park pitch on 25 Feb with their team losing 2-0.
The teams left the pitch until Police restored order & after the re-start Rangers would win 5-3.
The SFA recommended the game be replayed, the League refused.

A Happy 58th Birthday to a Motherwell great, Chis McCart.
Chris played over 300 games whilst wearing claret and amber and is a beloved member of the 1990-91 Scottish Cup Winning team.
A clever player who relied on his ability to read a game rather than physicality.

#OTD A Happy 85th Birthday to Mr John Martis.

Only 17 years old when signed by manager Bobby Ancell from Royal Albert in November 1957.

He was named ‘Player of The Year’ in seasons 1965/66 & 1966/67 & in 11 years at Fir Park made 400 appearances.

Inducted into MFC Hall of Fame in 2021.

#OTD Saturday 27 March 1965 saw manager Bobby Ancell take charge of a Motherwell team for the last time.
It was a 2-2 draw v Celtic in the Scottish Cup semifinal, both 'Well scored by a soon-to-be Celtic star, Joe McBride.
Celtic won the replay 3-0 with new Motherwell boss Bobby Howitt in charge.

Moved to Dundee on 27 September 1938.

#OTD 13 March 1970 Bobby Watson and Brian Heron were signed from Rangers and Peter McCloy moved to Ibrox in a ‘no money’ deal/swap.
Bobby and Brian made their debuts against Raith Rovers on 14 March in a 2-1 defeat at Fir Park.

In a Scottish Cup quarter-final replay Motherwell beat Rangers 2-1 thanks to goals by Johnny Aitkenhead and Wilson Humphries.

35,632 fans paid + season ticket holders took the total to 37,000.

4 games later, Cup winners.

#OTD 23 February 1995 Steve Kirk & Paul McGrillen moved to Falkirk in an exchange deal + £100,000 for Eddie May.

Their last Motherwell game was on 18 February when they came on as subs in the 65th & 80th minutes against Hibs in a Scottish Cup 4th round game.

An ol’ school gentleman.

#OTD 63 years ago on 17 February 1962 Motherwell played Stranraer in the Scottish Cup at Stair Park.
Motherwell won 3-1 thanks to goals by Willie Hunter & a double from Willie McSeveney.

#OTD 16 February 1991 Phil O’Donnell played his first 90 minutes for Motherwell in a 2-0 loss away to Rangers.

He made his debut on the 24 November 1990 in a 1-1 home draw with St Mirren.

Incredibly 12 weeks after the Rangers game he played his part in a momentous day in the history of MFC.

This was Davie Coopers' 600th Scottish League appearance.
While with Motherwell, Davie had been working in a coaching capacity with the reserve and youth sides. #legend

#OTD 11 February 1933 Alan McClory became the first Motherwell keeper to be sent off.
He was sent off at Fir Park v Rangers in 3-1 loss in front of a crowd of 30,000.
Bobby Ferrier took over in goals.
Alan was the first Motherwell player to be sent off since David Thackeray in 1927 (4th photo).

33 years ago in May 1992 the roof of the Main Stand, now Phil O'Donnell, was replaced.

Did you know that the recipient of the Scottish Professional Footballers Association first ever 'Player of The Year' award was Motherwell Hall of Famer, Mr Charlie Aitken?
He was honoured on 18 September 1966 at an award dinner in a Glasgow hotel.
