I've only ever experienced SA1 as a broken mess and I'm told part of this is due to all ports breaking controls and physics. The Dreamcast with its specific analog stick dead zone is apparently the way to not just grind into walls constantly.

I gotta say it feels beyond my reach.

It seems like we've entered an era where people generally only consume the things explicitly made for them and any engagement with classics is left on the wayside. No one's catching Boris Karloff on cable. Frankenstein isn't assigned in school anymore. Our cultural inheritance is abandoned.
