I randomly stumbled on a game (haven't played it) that reminded me of this post. It doesn't quite look like a fully realized version of what you're talking about, but maybe it could still be an example?

It pleases me so much to see the .hack// influence! Chikayo Fukuda is a legend & influence to me as well (made a few .hack// & G.U. FamiTracker cover tunes), & even before seeing the post, some of your works reminded me of .hack's OST.
