Effects of Typhoon Kalmaegi can also be seen in this 12 UTC sea level air pressure map with one station in Vietnam reporting very low air pressure. In the satellite imagery, one can easily see the reason for such a pressure report.

Typhoon Kalmaegi is continuing to head towards Vietnam. An eye feature can be seen in the recent satellite imagery and the JMA's latest forecast track calls for strengthening right up to landfall late Thursday local time.

In the coming hours, Melissa is expected to be back over water and make a landfall in Cuba tonight local time also as a major hurricane. After Cuba it will proceed onwards to Bahamas.

Hurricane #Melissa's eye is starting to move ashore. Inside the eye, the winds will be deceivingly calm, and the winds will return once the eye moves away. The latest NHC update reports the same intensity as an hour ago.

The NHC is using very strong wording in their latest update as catastrophic winds associated with Hurricane #Melissa are moving in. Melissa has strengthened even further, with maximum 1 minute average winds up to 295 km/h, and central pressure of 892 hPa.

Intensity unchanged. The eyewall with the worst conditions is now closing in on Jamaica and the already bad weather will worsen soon significantly, particularly on the western half of the island, such as in Santa Cruz.

9 UTC update from the NHC still has Melissa with 1 minute average sustained winds of up to 280 km/h and the central air pressure of 901 hPa. The eye continues to be headed towards Jamaica.
