Lapidary work is inherently very messy, too. With cooling (oil/water), sludge and dangerous dust - it's surprisingly industrial.

I often tell people that the best path is to join your local Gem & Mineral club - they typically have a club shop that members can use.

I would suggest joining a local Gem & Mineral club. Many will have a club “shop” that members can access. They typically have all the equip you need.

It definitely requires dedicated space, and depending on what equipment, it can get pretty messy.

Cooling is done by water or oil and both present their own challenges. Grit, sludge and rock debris travel easily.

Ventilation needs to be considered, too - silicosis (breathing dust) is incurable.
