On one hand I hate letting the team just slide with making the least inspired move, but at the same time I’m just not sure there was much better options available.

Agreed, the outfield has desperately needing revamping for years. There’s improvements needed but letting schwarber (and even JT IMO) go doesn’t meet any of them

I understand people that think they need to make more changes to the roster, but it’s like some people want them to have a worse roster just for the sake of change

Maybe. Could be worth considering as an option but I’m skeptical that a 34 year old is going to be able to go from not catching at all to being a starter there. I’m sure he could go behind the plate a few games if needed but probably not anything close to the JT workload we are used to.

As you’ve said, the real answer is that we are just bored of Judge winning MVP and have normalized how absurd a talent he is so Raleigh was a more fun narrative.

True. I do think there might be something unmeasured that the physical demand of catching plus how much they have to take on other responsibilities such as working with pitchers makes it even more impressive. I’m doubtful it makes up for a 40 gap in WRC+ plus though.

I don’t think this would actually change my vote on MVP because it isn’t any sort of on field value, but the argument that Raleigh’s accomplishments could be framed as more impressive considering how physically demanding it is being a catcher at least makes me ponder it.
