Doherty endures as a one-man cult* solely because of the Libertines, I’m convinced of it. There can’t be any artistic reason.

Hope it hits the spot!

Absolutely. Also like the fact that the albums are mood as well as style dependent, so (my) preference can shift. Finally saw the movie a few nights ago, so having quite a Pavers week!

Cheers, Phil. I know what you mean - I kind of wobble between Crooked Rain… & BTC but atm the latter has the edge. By next month it may have gone the other way!

SO great. Am beyond gutted that his shows at the ICA are same day as Tortoise, which I had already bought a ticket for. Who (dis)organises these unholy clashes?!

But we go with what hits us hardest in the instant, right? It’s always good to think more widely but the feels win, inevitably. Which is as it should be. For me, it was simply that Sugar didn’t offer much - but maybe I had Nevermind blindness!

In all honesty, Stevie, I’m 99% certain it was “college rockers”. Because that’s how Sugar sounded to me first time I saw them live, at ULU. Tamed, somehow, cf HD’s melodic fury. (Though of course, I still ❤️ed Bob.) V much looking forward to reading your piece. x

This made me even more convinced that human life is devolving at hyper speed. Utterly bewildering & grimly fascinating in equal parts. I got as far as Wristband Guy & had to stop.
