Yes it wasn’t called the Space Race for nothing. The USSR tracked Apollo to the Moon several times and said nothing about it being fake. They would have loved nothing more to prove it was, but they confirmed it was genuine on six occasions.

If anything, passing through the Van Allen belts was easier in the 1960s as modern electronics are much more sensitive to radiation than the relatively primitive tech used during Apollo.
