I mourn what we, as a nation, as a people, could have been. I mourn where we are headed, and all the brilliant conversations we could be having, vs the war we will now have to wage to defend what’s left of the good in us.

Realizing I always have at least one cry during Christmas break for some seemingly inconsequential but actually deeply existential reason

Listened to the Throughline episode on smell, & one interesting fact I learned is that olfactory training can not only restore sense of smell lost via illness, but that regular smell training can also enhance long-term cognitive function in regular smellers. Go sniff some fave smells now, everyone!

Funny to find this post after my last one! I also like the idea of broad December songs. Fidelity is crisp and clean and a lil jingly in sound so I get it.
This always feels like a December song to me. Not a holiday song, to be clear; but a song for the parts of December that aren't about the holidays. The December we don't pay enough to.

Does anyone else like listening to wintry/holiday-suggestive music but can’t really stand Christmas songs? I’ve been defaulting to various “winter fireplace” stations on YouTube but they’re pretty cheesy. Otherwise I often play jazzy piano (ala Guaraldi), orrr medieval Christmas if feeling dramatic
