Depends on the area. Here in California, riddled with faults, we have many smaller earthquakes that relieve the built up tension, pressure, or torsion associated with whichever faults are involved. Tech has gotten better at sensing and reporting them too, so there's that factor too.

I always used to do selection first because students understand pressures of food, sex, and/or survival. Once you change a factor that affects one of those, it's easy to understand drift.
