I love library ladders! And library chairs are among my favorite useful/beautiful material objects - once described as "the best and handsomest article ever invented."
The image shows an English Regency metamorphic library chair / library steps in simulated faux rosewood, made in the manner of Morgan and Saunders, ca. 1820. This specific image shows the chair converted from a set of steps into a chair. The curved top rail has a rollover moulded edge above a central rope twist rail. The well scrolled arms above the cane seat have a loose leather buttoned cushion. The curved seat rail is raised on sabre legs terminating in brass castors. The back stretcher has a brass release button allowing the hinged seat to open and convert into the library steps. The four graduating treads with tooled leather inset panels. This design was based on one made by Morgan & Sanders circa 1810 (P Agius, Ackermann's Regency Furniture & Interiors). According to Ackermann, the chair was a "truly novel and useful articles" and was "considered the best and handsomest article ever yet invented." Younger sib was using GPT as a news search engine, rather than trusted sources. They didnt believe EM supported AfD & cited GPT as source. Told sib the most recent update to GPT was Oct 2023. I fed GPT sources about first 2 weeks of EM/DT 2.0 & it came up w/ this. Out of the mouths of AI-babes...

I can't believe it is happening on today, of all days, but I have just been awarded my doctorate in Library and Information Science. I successfully defended my thesis with unanimous approval of my opponent Elena Pierazzo and my committee. I am now, finally, after an insane amount of work, a PHD!
