Hyvää Pyhän Cecilian, musiikin ja muusikkojen ja vaikka nyt musiikintutkijoidenkin suojeluspyhimyksen, päivää. Pyynikinlinnassa olevan pitkäkaulaisen maalauksen tietoja en löytänyt/muista (tietääkö joku?), sen sijaan tässä näppäisy Westminsterin katedraalin pylväskäytävältä.

Last (!) day of fieldwork, oh dear. Running the machine down with this lovely book. Since Feb we have accumulated approx. 200 km of listening walks, 800 recordings + 100h automated recordings, dozen pounds interviews, few kilos surveys, a bus load of new friends and research notes 🪇🐋

The last of six 24h traffic counts has begun (quite pleased). Morning 5am at #Nauvo, sun is up, a little humidity in the air, food lorries delivering their goods to both duopoly stores (S and K) and people attending to graves of relatives. Counted 9 different birds.

We are in #Nauvo! The last of our six villages. Started briskly with listening walks. 7 am it was calm and sunny, mainly ventilators, recycle trucks, phylloscopus trochilus and line of vehicles from the ferry every 15min. The new silent asphalt works like a miracle.

Last day in #Dollar, last recordings, interviews, documentations to be done. Can’t believe we’re heading home after 6 weeks of this academic interrail. We have a really great team tho. Tired but happy.

So, our fieldwork consists of 10 days in 6 European small towns. Not all have hotels or restaurants, nor accommodations have kitchens. Yes, we have allergies. To make do we have carried food with us and made interesting dishes, with eg coffee makers. Behold, the joy, of proper food!

Löytönen (ed., 2009) lists our longitudinal research project among Finnish explorations (I’m an explorer!). In London there’s this chain of pubs, branded and decorated with Phileas Fogg in mind. Yesterday visited their ”Society of Explorers”. Thought it apt to take a selfie in the ladies’ loo.

Au revoir #Lesconil! You were kind to us and fed us well with crépes and salty caramel sauce. The film crew of Stefano and Carlo will stay over the weekend, the research team heads to Dollar, Scotland. But first a few days off in London (no metadata excel to fill,hooray!)
