if you really want independent artists to make the work they're excited about, you're also probably not going to like a lot of it! the edges won't be sanded down by mass-marketing! and yet when people encounter independent art that makes them uncomfortable, it's "problematic" or deemed Terrible

apropos of nothing: pretty cool (read: extremely uncool) how modern pap smears are not much better than its barbaric torture roots because of medical sexism and racism. a routine medical examination that half the world needs where undue pain is just brushed off as "you'll get over it". horrific!!!!!
