TFW you’re constantly criticized for your protagonists being too old so you stick this dude in the crowd at graduation. #StrangerThings

I love that the comments on this DC Facebook post are split between people confused because they don’t know #HeatedRivalry exists and people who never saw #Joker2 and are thus doubly lost.

You know that the Crave social team are Gen Z and not millennials because I had to make these myself. #HeatedRivalry

To think that two months ago #HeatedRivalry was going to be confined to Canada, and now I’m scheduling 3600 words to go up at 1am and all my social feeds are talking about the cottage.

What a time to be alive.

Addendum for those I've seen wondering about #HeatedRivalry Golden Globes: they have the same rule re: foreign productions, and if I'm reading this right, the show would also not be eligible next year because the rule allowing it to submit despite finishing airing this calendar year will be dead?

I’m shocked that it took until 800k before a meaningful gap—still under 5%—emerged between the actor playing the exciting character and the actor playing the canonically boring one. Impressive. #HeatedRivalry

It’s the holidays and I have a decent amount of actual work to do, but just know I want to write an entire newsletter about the perspective choices being made in the grammar on the Instagram account for Simon Cowell’s Netflix boy band.

It’s a pure licensing deal, which makes it ineligible. Co-production deals only, made before production begins.

I understand why this week’s episode of #HeatedRivalry has accelerated this discourse, but the same reason the show is this successful (the fact it was fully financed in Canada) are the same reasons why it is not eligible for the Emmys.

TIL that the #HeatedRivalry fandom has reached “If you make a comment on Reddit to keep them from thinking this week’s episode is crazy long, that basic fact will snowball into a whole discourse” levels. Impressive pace.

SAG latching onto viral shows that they either won’t nominate (Boots) or literally can’t nominate because Canada (Heated Rivalry) is as cringe as the new name TBH.
December 12, 2025 at 8:37 PM
Anyway, I'm going to repeat this and add that it applies to Top 10 lists too.

Since I SUPPOSE KPDH did have those sing-along releases, nominating a movie that hasn’t been released yet for a Box Office achievement award is slightly sillier than nominating a streaming movie. But it’s darn close. (This will be the Sinners consolation prize, ala Barbie).

Final update: my pickup email didn’t have a barcode which confused me until I remembered the order was for SOME reason changed to curbside pickup in March 2020? Weird, right?

Subscribe to read more of my review AND because I probably don't pay myself enough for the amount of time I spent getting a non-blurry screenshot of this moment.

I love the absurdity of the Penske of it all: THR published a full feature story on #HeatedRivalry, and Variety and Deadline have just aggregated the exact same OUT interview as clickbait.

New shows always invade my TikTok FYP, but what’s happening with #HeatedRivalry is…different, probably because the algorithm is categorizing it as both TV and Gay Stuff, two of its favorite categories for me.

Obviously I am already watching, but imagine this happening to someone unaware.

As much as my social feeds have become dominated by variations on “ #HeatedRivalry 🥵,” which obviously tracks, I think there’s more going on here and I’m glad to see Episodic Medium subscribers agreeing.

Apple's refusal to have #Pluribus press stills up before I have to edit @donnadb.bsky.social's reviews? Annoying.

Getting to take screenshots that are better than the press stills will be anyway? Opportunity.

Not seeing enough posts about the Children and Family Emmys finally acknowledging June Squibb as the Outstanding Children’s Personality she clearly is.
