Trying to learn to draw / learn digital art basics. Gonna document my progress by posting stuff here. Stay tuned :>
Tried doing a scene from the second Symphogear season where Linker'd up Miku is using the Shénshòujìng while fighting against the main cast.

I did a bunch of coloring and stuff before realizing I'd completely messed up which layers I was working on lol.

Live and learn.

To practice some more dynamic poses, I tried quickly sketching some splash art of some league champions.

Top left is Star Guardian Jinx
Top Right is Project Ashe
Bottom left is Winter Wonderland Orianna
Bottom right is Project Senna

Some characters from Symphogear.

Extremely evident that Maria got 2-3x the time investment lol. Ruffles are fun (but hard) to draw.

I used some basic grid guides when trying to replicate the reference shapes, which turned out really well, but took a LOT of time going back and forth.

Sketches of my FFXIV character based on some gpose references.

+50 points if anyone can name the staff shown here :)

So this one was just exploring the watercolor style digital brushes in the program for a little bit.

Feels a bit dreamy...

Phosphophyllite (Phos) from the early part of Houseki no Kuni (Land of the Lustrous)

The hair colors in both the anime adaptation and the manga are always so pretty!

25th Baam from Tower of God!

Trying to just side by side match the character art to get better at making my hands do what I want them to.

Its also cool how just a little creasing/shadows go SO FAR when it comes to making clothes look good. Actually crazy.

Motivation low, but since i technically did doodle something today, i will also post today.

Tried sketching a scene from the then airing Gundam GQuuuuuux. I guess my takeaway from it is that perspective is hard.

Supergiant classic Transistor stands the test of time.

Tried recreating some of the concept art to get better at using the paint brush tools.

Drew this while GQuuuuuux was still airing.

The first attempt was super lumpy, but the second turned out nice.

Raichu zappin!

I live! I drew a growlithe from reference!

Charizard big dragon boi!

Articuno doodle! Still in gen 1, but on the last few of my favorites.

With a 30 drawing delay between what I'm drawing vs posting and the fact that I've been kinda bad with practicing, the drawing date and the current date are kinda getting uhhhh....

Vaporeon! This ended up looking way better/more stylized without the lines, so I left em out.
June 28, 2025 at 6:52 AM
Tonight's upload is a Manwha character - Jue Viole Grace from Tower of God!

Not great at people faces, so his jaw is giga big vs the reference.

Short break from the gen 1 pokemon favorites, just some misc. doodling / trying to replicate references:

-Tachibana Hibiki from Symphogear
-Loran Cehack from Turn A Gundam
-Misc Job symbols from FFXIV
-A Gyarados head firing a big beam

And back to a gen 1 starter Pokemon with Squirtle!

Largely just followed the reference for the pose/shadows/highlights, however a simple canvas texture over everything and a gradient background go a long way to making it pop!

Ignore the wonky tail proportions....
June 18, 2025 at 6:16 AM
You can't talk gen 1 Pokemon without touching on some of the OG legendaries, so here's my attempt at Mew!

Turning off the lines at the end also looked kinda neat, so there's a version of that too.

Having a cloudy horizon with mew flying above it just felt right for a background.

A friend mentioned she liked foxes, so running with that I did one of the fox inspired pokemon from gen 1, Vulpix!

I used some guides to try and keep the shapes roughly proportional to the reference, and it turned out well.

Still love the aggressively highlighted early art style.

This time a starter, Bulbasaur!

Pretty sure folks had recommendations on best or worst starter based on early gym types, but that was way above my head back when I first played the games.

I really like the almost watercolor painted look the early gen 1 art-style used, Its really cool looking.

You cant be drawing fun gen 1 Pokemon without doing the ZAP RAT himself, Pikachu!

But to keep it silly, I found a fun frame from the show and used that as the reference.

Since he's fairly simply drawn, I spent a little time to throw together a simple background based on the reference too.
June 9, 2025 at 7:37 AM
Eevee this time! Used some of the official art as reference.

Trying out just using the pencil tool in Krita. Kinda gives it that colored pencil look.
June 8, 2025 at 5:49 AM
Aaaaand back to water types again, with the silly fish Magikarp!

I was never able to properly be patient and level-up/evolve one when I played the games. Instead I would always wait until mid-late game when you could find Gyarados from random encounters.
June 4, 2025 at 5:32 AM
From water type to dragon type: Dragonair!

It's fairly simple, but it took me a while to sketch>clean it up>add colors>add shadows/highlights following the reference.

Had to trace circles to get the baubles on tail/neck looking half decent.

Overall, happy with how it turned out. :)
