Maybe music videos brought us closer to artists. And Walkmans made listening more intimate. Perhaps pop, rock, soul, hip hop merged to make sound more dynamic. Or maybe our brains just made music mean more.

The “reminiscence bump” is a psychological phenomenon - the time between 10 and 30 yrs old when our memories can recall events more powerfully. With music memories even more resilient as they are stored in a protected area of our brains.
