✨ Early Fall Magic in Acadia Early fall is a magical time in Maine’s Acadia National Park. Daytime temperatures stay pleasantly warm, while evenings bring a cool, comfortable breeze—perfect weather for spending time on the water. My favorite moment is the “Golden Hour”, that radiant stretch before sunset when the light softens and the landscape glows. Our rented cottage in the small village of Bernard, Maine is by the water in an area called Duck Cove. Light pollution is virtually nil at night so it's a good environment not only to view stars but to photograph them.

I woke up in our cozy seaside cottage to a brilliant morning in Bernard, Maine. Well hello there, fellow wanderers! Your mellow globetrotter has officially touched down in the enchanting city of Edinburgh, Scotland! After a smooth flight across the pond, the air here feels crisp and alive. I can already tell this ten-day adventure is going to be something truly special. The historic architecture is breathtaking, and there's a buzz in the air hinting at the incredible experiences to come.

How do I keep a bucket-list Italy trip alive forever in my heart and soul?Through my stomach, of course. The best souvenir I brought home from Italy wasn’t a trinket or T-shirt—it was a local cookbook. Not one you’d find on Amazon or tucked onto a bookstore shelf. In fact, it’s not even a “book” in the traditional sense—it’s a humble 44-page booklet filled with authentic recipes from a real Italian kitchen. 

A triple delight: cooling trade winds, crystal clear blue sky, and lush rainforest. The pristine Waimea Valley welcomed us with real aloha spirit. Where mountains meet the sea on Oʻahu’s North Shore lies Waimea—often called the Valley of the Priests. In Hawaiian, Waimea means “reddish water,” a reference to the rust-colored stream that flows through the valley, tinted by volcanic soil and erosion.

As a kid, I spent summers at the Jersey Shore playing on the beach and body surfing in the ocean. It was fun and healthy—except for the annual pain from sunburn. (Back then, skin cancer awareness wasn’t really a thing.) I believed the ocean had healing powers because that’s what my parents told me. Any cut, scrape, or blister—and there were plenty—was exposed to saltwater.

A neighbor handed me the top of a store-bought pineapple she’d cut off while slicing the fruit. Instead of tossing it, she thought I might want to plant it—just to see what happens. I literally laughed out loud. “Plant it? Really?” I bellowed. Two years later, the joke’s on me. Despite my ignorance and complete lack of nurturing, that pineapple top I stuck in a pot turned into a legitimate, fruit-bearing plant in my Florida garden.

We stumbled upon a hidden slice of paradise during our visit to Capri, the tiny island off the coast of Naples in southern Italy. Capri is just as busy and beloved as any other Italian destination—especially in summer and fall—but the place we discovered felt quiet, romantically beautiful, and pleasantly uncrowded.

Sitting on a closely mowed green fairway just off the beach on Seabrook Island, SC, the party is underway. People dance to the music of a live rock band or gather in small groups on lawn chairs, drinking, eating, and playing cornhole. As the sun sets, the scene feels like a joyful prelude to the main event: fireworks. Fourth of July fireworks are an annual tradition here—just like everywhere else—but the Big Bang celebration comes a day early.

I’m constantly in awe of sky gazing. The sun, moon, clouds, and stars are a giant gallery with wonderful, mesmerizing works of art. Art that’s constantly in motion. I’m always seeking to capture and preserve it in the various places I travel. I’m currently in the South Carolina Lowcountry, specifically Seabrook Island near Charleston. I attached my GoPro Hero camera to a dock overlooking the marshes of the Stono River and focused on the sky.

The first week of June is indelibly etched in my memory as a seasonal shift I always dread. While many celebrate the end of the school year and the start of summer vacations, my senses go on high alert: Good Lord, it’s hurricane season—again!
