Have you ever had rural Ohio pizza? Imagine a rectangular, almost fluffy, white-bready crust, topped with sweet, bland tomato sauce and grocery store shredded mozzarella. And not a hint of garlic anywhere. I grew up with that shit, and I’m still scarred.

Good point. Since I get most of my news from podcasts, though, I encounter a lot of podcasters pushing left-wing quackery. But you’re right. The scale is not the same.

How do you reach people who willfully & metaphorically plug their ears and shout “Lalala” whenever they encounter a fact they don’t like? I don’t know. Maybe our best hope is to let them experience the consequences of their choices, and enough will come to their senses to help stop this madness.

It wasn’t any smaller during the civil rights protests, or the anti-Viet Nam protests. But I know these are different times, and it’s not a given that we have the courage and energy to fight for our democracy this time. I sure hope we do, though.

They have the power we choose to grant them. It might not be pretty when and if we take it back, but we certainly can take it back if enough of us decide to.
