Labour was handed the election on a plate. A landslide win because their opposition was so dismal even many life-term supporters wouldn't vote for them. Yet, Reeves, with Starmer's blessing, is making such a mess of this that Labour likely wont win next time around. It's all a travesty.

Though the headline of that article speaks to something we've known for a long time, it makes it no less sobering. History repeating itself.

If it's anything like every other AI tool it will simply magnify pre-existing inequalities and problems more generally. Just like ChatGPT, just like Wikipedia, just like every other major tech tool - every last one of which has failed, abjectly, to push back against inequality in research.

Agree. Originators are facing it from all angles, but appropriation and theft of the value of works is particularly concerning. You might be interested in a campaign that colleagues and I have just launched with a survey in the UK.

I agree. I think it's clear we've had massive under-imagination and uninvestment in transport in cities for now many years. We need Victorian levels of ambition. We can see this is a 'Jaws' scenario, it'll take disasters hitting before public officials take action, and even then...

I tried to get some funding for research into this - to create a report that scoped the issue in detail. Upshot was that the party said they would like the report pro bono, so it never happened. Hopefully before long someone somewhere will see fit to probe the problem properly...

However, I don't anticipate the will happen, because on this, as with most issues, there is little to suggest it will, either here in the UK or in Europe. What could that lead to? I think the US is indicative of the answer to that question.

On this issues, and on many issues, there is a palpable distrust of officials and of those calling the shots. I think that distrust will deepen unless issues like this one engage wide-ranging perpsectives and voices, and consider all equally.
