Watching the new administration take on its hideous form and thinking of parasitic plants like these Medusa midge galls growing on sagebrush. Tiny insects subvert the sagebrush’s growth mechanisms to form their own little leafy nurseries.

Of course it’s hard to breathe watching the news, but I am clinging to painting, to slow meditative observation of what grows in front of me, and excessive baking with our kids. I guess the first 100 days will be a lot of shock and horror, attempting to buckle into defiant joy. How about you all?
