Loved learning a little about this (though admittedly only just barely engaging with the tip of the iceberg!): www.bbc.com/future/artic...
How bubonic plague rewired the human immune system
Bubonic plague can easily be treated with modern antibiotics, but the disease that once killed millions may have left its mark on humankind.

I wonder if it would be fruitful to ask students why they want o study medicine. And then go from there about how the cuts will affect their why/make their why harder or make it impossible.

Second the SlumberPod! We started using it with our guy at 1 year or so. Every time he does have to get used to it again. (And now, at almost 2.5yo, he’s starting to lift it up off his crib/pack and play!) But it’s the black hole that gives us the ability to read, watch tv quietly.

This gets me fantasizing about what it would look like if Harvard and other elite institutions subverted their own systems and redirected moneys to significantly under-resourced higher ed institutions in significantly under-resources areas, so those institutions could thrive. A girl can dream!

I encourage everyone to seek out my fellow roundtable authors’ books. At this painful historical moment, you may especially benefit from @novicktamar’s #LandofMilkandHoney. I am learning so much from it. (3/3)

I got to reflect on the academic politics and political context of writing #SkepticismsPictures. Our conversation was lively, generative, and compassionate, especially in the midst of much grief and uncertainty. An HSS experience I won’t soon forget. (2/3)
