Kissinger lied too. The fear wasn't the spread of socialism so much as the fear of lost resource access. US backed Pinochet in Chile b/c the democratically elected president nationalized the copper industry. This hurt US interests in manufacturing and defense.

The US created or helped to create extremely difficult living conditions in other countries. The US education system teaches with a totally different agenda in mind - so most of us are unaware of exactly what the US has done. It's true and it's horrifying.
