The American people deserve to know if the President does not intend to uphold the Constitution of the United States or if he intends to uphold it only when he agrees with the Supreme Court.

Students of this school believe that the president is obligated to obey Supreme Court decisions and orders only if he believes the Court has properly interpreted the Constitution, and not if he disagrees that the Constitution says what the Supreme Court says it says.

I explained that there has long been a strain of conservative constitutional thought that believes the Constitution is only what the Constitution itself says and that it is not necessarily what the Supreme Court says the Constitution says when it interprets the Constitution.

This is an absurd and weak deflection of responsibility. Imagine if the commander in chief were pawning off military decisions to his “generals.”

The president takes an oath to defend the constitution and faithfully execute our laws — nobody elected the lawyers working for him.
WELKER: Your secretary of state says everyone who's here, citizens and non-citizens, deserve due process. Do you agree?

TRUMP: I don't know. I'm not a lawyer. I don't know.

WELKER: Don't you need to uphold the Constitution?

TRUMP: I don't know

Above is the phone number for the U.S. Capitol switchboard where an operator will connect you directly with the office you request. Let your members of Congress know how you feel. It matters.
