I write, read, enjoy good beer, spend time with my humans & cat, and try to hold pockets of hope where I find it.

Defend marginalized people. Trust science. Mask up.
Related in Chicago.
Reminder: the FIRST story is the one people remember. Every newspiece after has to fight twice as hard to get the word out about the corrections.

I’m coeditor of an old school DIY print zine published quarterly: Final Gravity. It’s all person-centric stories about and around beer and the community it provides. We pay our writers. It makes us terribly happy, and is mostly how we’re breathing these days.

Here’s Midnight!
I don’t know how much of a distraction she is to you, but she’s making it impossible for *me* to write tonight because she insists on being on my lap.
Alone.
With no notebook or pen nearby.
And yes, she is fiercely guarding all she perceives as her space.

But what if we neeeeedddd it and are going to cry if our local indie doesn’t have the cool robot cover one?

Can you be bribed?

Will you start the bribe at a photo of a small wooden robot constructed by hand (from a kit, but by hand nonetheless)?

I used to keep this mug in my office, but it became too dicey with walk-ins.
My current standard is: “Not sure where the misunderstanding occurred! Hope this clarifies: [obviously copied and pasted text, this time in bold and sometimes even highlighted]. Thanks!”

A weekend morning watching our outdoor patio birds, and then moving to hanging out with Midnight and diving into our piles of books.

This is, I think, the perfect way to spend the first weekend of the newest year.

Favorite New Year’s Day tradition is starting the year out with this movie.

They say that putting a name to your trauma helps the healing.

Do you have any of these handy field guides nearby?

They are so awful!
Our Midnight loves to help herself to such well-known cat delicacies as uncooked long grain rice, broccoli, extra-poisonous tomato sauce (because garlic), and bags of bagels of which she insists on taking little bites before remembering she hates.
