Yes, it puts you in a tough/weird position because ... what're you supposed to do? Sharing resources and affirming that they're not bonkers for resisting is good.

I recently read this, written by a student, and found it clear and helpful. There's a certain question of consent, I think, with AI. If a course desc says the course will require it, then ok, fair enough. But springing it on people feels wrong.
