Dick Powell has always been my fave Marlowe (and I love Bogie). There’s something about Powell’s seen-it-all weariness & wit that won me over. And Harry J. Wild’s cinematography is fantastic.

Too Late for Tears is fantastic. My sentimental pick is Black Angel, because it’s the film in which I first saw the great Dan Duryea - he quickly became one of my favorite actors.

Every time I see a John Garfield movie, I’m struck by how many stellar performances he had left to give. To have possibly seen him in a 70s Scorsese or Cassavetes film? Would have been incredible. One of the all-time greats.
