This project was part of my 'Dancing Modernist Literature' initiative, which explores how we can read modernist writing choreographically.

Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven (1874–1927) was a poet, sculptor, performer, and model — a fierce Dadaist who shocked and delighted audiences with her found-object sculptures, made-up languages, and wild performances.

🌀 Designed by Correspondence, the poster spreads its instructions around silhouettes of Freytag-Loringhoven herself. Printed on 60g paper, her image literally shines through — echoing the way participants are invited to embody her voice and movement.

💃 The choreographic poster invites participants to parrot her voice — to read, cut, and dance through her poem 'On Edge.' Through this act of feminist resurrection, it channels the long-forgotten spirit of the Baroness of Dada back to life.

The work is inspired by German poet and performer Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven, whose radical poetry and performances blurred the boundaries between art, body, and life.

Thrilled to finally share 'Some Body Else__On Edge' — a choreographic poster I developed with choreographer Ekaterine Giorgadze as part of her research stay at Oxford.

It's designed by the incredible Correspondence; photos by Tommy Smits

I sent a box of mostly new books and a DVD with UPS and this is how they arrived — rest assured I stacked them. That book was white when I put it in

New pub alert:
I wrote about De Keersmaeker's staging of Rilke's The Cornet, including her engagement with its afterlife in World War II. About how her choreography explores its powerful imagery and form, and her evocation of the Nazi salute.

So proud that Koos got to design the Dutch pavilion for the Venice Biennale and that Dezeen and Domus put it in their top exhibitions! He designed it with the fantastic Jeannette Slütter.

This Queer Sports Bar focuses on Gabriel Fontana’s inclusive games; curated by Amanda Binatih.

Bad week but these proofs came for my forthcoming article in Dance Research, so there's a glimmer.

When I wrote the article, I had no idea that American Conservatives would be doing Nazi Salutes by the time it came out, but there you go.

Today I am remembering this beauty the University of Amsterdam’s in-house temp service gave me when they employed me for one course during the pandemic.

I am in Helsinki and for the second time today I am going to watch Neumeier’s Death in Venice. It’s the first time a company that is not the Hamburger Ballett is performing it. Thank you, @leverhulme.bsky.social for funding my research on dancing modernist literature.

Dig up your book proposals! At Brill, we're launching a book series on Bodies & Abilities, asking what bodies can and can't do, what counts as an ability, and whose abilities count. I am excited to serve as series editor with a stellar editorial board! brill.com/page/boab
