Thread on Local Elections in Kosova 2025.

The first round of #Kosova’s local elections has set the stage for a highly competitive run-off.

Most parties held onto the municipalities they, but the majority of races are heading into run-offs.

The man who financed a paramilitary attack in Banjska and refuses to this day to hand over the terrorists, is now talking about stability. There is nothing more stable to the region than NATO allies supporting a Kosovar state to defend itself.

Watched Vucic's interview for Newmax. He literally starts by lying about Trumps popularity in Serbia. Trumps actual popularity in Serbia is at 44% and below Putin and Xi. (IRI poll Sep. 2025). Serbia is not an ally of the U.S.

Serbian Paralell structures in Kosova are used to intimidate and threaten local Serbs. Local politician Petrovic and Ristic, who ran against the Serb List, state that Kosovo-Serbs in those institutions have been either fired or had a massive reduction of salary for not supporting the Serb List.

In 2023, YIHR identified 250 graffitis "When the army returns to Kosovo" around Serbia. Now 🇷🇸 engineer Danijel Dasic said that State Auditor of Serbia, during an audit of the Serbian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, found that this ministry spent €217k for the murals.

Wanted to read something from Africa and opted for this anthology. The Penguin Book of Modern African Poetry contains poems from various poets of the continent. I especially enjoyed the political ones.

Fun-fact there are more Kosovar-Swiss players playing for Kosova than Switzerland.

While Switzerland has only Xhaka (who played for them before the Kosovar team entered FIFA), Kosova has at least 5 Swiss-born players, with Avdullahu being the latest addition.

A thought-provoking! In The Denial of Death, Ernest Becker argues that much of what we do is shaped by our fear of mortality. To cope, we create “immortality projects” in the form of families, causes, nations, legacies to have a lasting impact in the world. #raftiimehes

I had the opportunity to present my work at the IPSA World Congress in Seoul, South Korea #IPSA2025. The substantial participation of scholars from the Global South brought enriching perspectives to the conference.

Why does every political movement in 🇷🇸 feel the need to prove its “patriotism” by obsessing over a state that is neither ethnically, culturally, nor politically Serbian? The lack of corruption & anti-corruption protests in 🇽🇰 says it all.

Refreshing to see a Serb author reflecting on Serbia’s colonial legacy in Kosova. Had Serbia been pushed to confront its history, we might have a peaceful Balkans today and even good neighbourly relations. Instead we deal with historical revisionism and ongoing enmities.

Looking at indices like this, one might wonder why Kosova remains at the bottom of the EU integration, despite ranking as one of the most democratic countries in the region. The answer is simple, but cynical: the EU is more focused on using Kosova as leverage on Serbia than treating it as a state

A change in the last decade in Germany is the increasing number of "Balkan Bakeries". A lot of the owners seem to be from Has, Kosova. Most of the ones I talk to tell me that they migrated in Yugoslav times to Slovenia and Croatia, but are now moving to Germany.

Coverage on victims of
Serb aggression in Kosova
is non-existent.No perpetrated war crime can make it through the cultural glass ceiling of denial in Serbia. The EU has only
accommodated this
culture of denial,
that perniciously reinforces Serbia's self-righteous claim over independent Kosova

Peruvian novelist Mario Vargas Llosa has passed away. During the Yugoslav Wars, he wrote poignant essays siding with the victims and condemning Milosevic. He criticized Spain’s silence on the war, a legacy that led to Spain being only Western democracy not to recognize Kosova. Some excerpts:🧵

A country can recognize Kosova and still maintain good relations with 🇷🇸. Serbia sent similar 'protest notes' to over hundred countries that recognized 🇽🇰 in the past, and it meant nothing. If Serbia wants to isolate itself internationally over Kosova, so be it.

26 years anniversary of NATO's humanitarian intervention to stop mass expulsion and genocide in Kosova. And X has a summary of Serb-propaganda accounts and RT giving their revisionist account of the event, which of course never mention Albanian victims.
