I am proud of myself today, and that feels pretty damn good.

I earned my Ph.D. and I am walking across the stage today. It feels unreal.

I won’t touch anything from Columbia with a ten foot pole. I feel for the faculty - their administration is facilitating further decline into academic capitalism at the expense of academic freedom and shared governance. I look forward to studying this more in depth, as I am sure others are as well.

I’m pretty confident I saw @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social at SFO today. If it was…hello! If it wasn’t…I’ll see myself out.

Nothing like our university president resigning last night. No transition, just an email saying “Peace out, good luck.”

The president is threatening to seize assets to force compliance at private universities. Please tell me how this isn’t authoritarianism.

Studying academic capitalism in higher education right now is wild.

Today, I am editing my manuscript. I have to remind myself that what I am working on is important. Finishing this study is an act of defiance.

I'm waiting for the first university to implement a broad hiring freeze due to uncertainty about federal funding and policies. These discussions are undoubtedly happening behind the scenes, but nobody wants to say it publicly yet. It feels a lot like March 2020 across much of higher ed.
