Season's first snow showers (with leaves still on the trees!) in the foothills of the Smokies outside of Knoxville today.

Pardon the really awful video quality. Compression, etc.

Many stations across the South are near/at record lows (unofficially) this morning.
A few are even in all-time record low territory with multiple inches of snow on the ground.

Wild.

Here's a good visualization of some hazards set to plague Thanksgiving travelers.

We have (a lower-end risk of) severe t-storms in the South/Southeast and snow/potentially significant lake effect snow in the Northeast.

Bottom line:
Expect delays. Use extra caution/take your time to arrive safely.

Don't be fooled by relatively warm temps in the first half of the week.
A powerful front rolls through right around Thanksgiving Day and will leave us with the coldest air yet this season (for many).

Chilly air will linger into the following week, making it feel a whole lot like Christmas.

Sent to me from my Pennsylvania family earlier:
Bear Creek, PA. Ended up with ~14 inches of heavy, wet snow.

Kinda jealous since it only "slushed" in my part of East Tennessee for a few minutes last night.

Today's moment of zen is brought to you by last night's frontal passage.
Today's temps are 20°+ lower than yesterday's in East Tennessee ❄️☃️

Fireplace season is back - and Ivy is a big fan.

Thanksgiving travel could get dicey as a system is forecast to move into the eastern half of the country around that time frame.

Worth monitoring the evolution of this forecast (timing/hazards can change) if you have travel plans mid next week!
