How about these cosplayers at the 1963 Bullcon in Peterborough?

Michael Moorcock looks very dashing (centre), but I'd really like to know more about the man on the right, Kenneth Slater. Slater lived in Wisbech and was instrumental to British sf fandom for many years, starting his own magazine as early as 1947. 3/4

@catvalente Here you can see a fresh-faced Christopher Priest (bottom left) and Terry Pratchett (far right). 2/4

Fascinating read about the 1964 Eastercon, aka Repetercon, held at the Bull Hotel in Peterborough. Attendees included Arthur C. Clarke, Terry Pratchett, Michael Moorcock, Christopher Priest, and E.C. Tubb. https://www.fiawol.org.uk/FanStuff/THEN%20Archive/1964con/64con1.htm 1/4

Lovely stuff.

The Megatron features prominently in the new book from @catvalente, Space Oddity. Get your hands on the hardback or audiobook now (from the American sites).

McDonald's is celebrating its 50th year in the UK. Its recent marketing campaign brings back some old favourites.

In May 1990, Megatron hosted the Mega Family Fun Day in aid of the short-lived ITV Telethon. Dennis of Grunty Fen was in attendance, and prizes included a computer and a wedding dress!

Here's an early concept drawing from architect Graham Campbell with the screens.

Recently unearthed photo shared by Darren Maddox. Would love to know what the text said. The original plan was to have screens all the way round for advertisers.

Did you know US airmen encountered a werewolf close to the Megatron?

We've found the company that made Megatron's uniforms! Many thanks to Tibard for sending us one of their brochures featuring this spacesuit. Staff have confirmed that this is what the waitresses wore between 1990 and 1992. Snazzy!

Yeah, no.

I've been in the archives again. No trace of the werewolf said to prowl RAF Alconbury, but I did find a story about a tree trunk that looked a bit like the Loch Ness monster. On the front page, no less!

Someone in our Facebook group recreated one of the original Megatron t-shirts from the early '90s. I think they look great.

Do you remember the Hard Stand Monster, the werewolf-type creature seen at RAF Alconbury in the 1970s? I'm writing an article about it and would love to find some firsthand accounts.

Lauren Wood found this glow-in-the-dark Megatron t-shirt in a charity shop. They were sold at the restaurant between 1990 and 1992.

This one depicts Princess Azzara. Another depicted her pet alien Fidjet. We've found two of the former, but we've yet to see the latter.

Is it too late to put in an offer? The Megatron goes up for sale in 1992. McDonald's were the ones to snap it up, of course, re-opening in 1993.

An early story about the Megatron reveals that they originally planned to have holograms and a rocket-shaped building alongside the saucer.

Many UFO reports in the 1980s were thought to be linked to stealth aircraft based at RAF Alconbury, still secret at that time but since confirmed to fly from there.

A great picture from Soph Millar, standing outside the Megatron's entrance tunnel around 1999 or 2000.

New images from Historic England. I was under the impression the Megatron closed for good in the year 2000, but these are dated 5th July 2001. When exactly did it close?

The Megatron never stops inspiring. This painting is from a project called The Disappointed Tourist, from Ellen Harvey. Places that no longer exist, from the Megatron to the Buddhas of Bamiyan. Currently on show at Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ.
